Abstract

MOREIRA, Pilar; FERNANDEZ, Raúl; CABANA, Cecilia  and  SCHALAMUK, Isidoro A.. Structural analysis of the Jurassic mineralization from La Josefina epitermal Project (Au-Ag), Deseado Massif, Santa Cruz. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2008, vol.63, n.2, pp.244-253. ISSN 0004-4822.

The La Josefina Prospect is located in the central part of the Deseado Massif, where Jurassic volcanic rocks are the most representative units and are related with precious metal epithermal mineralization. Mineralization has taken place mainly in northwesttrending dextral faults which give place to a vein system with ore shoots related to dilatational bends. Based on the present study and the previous information, it is interpreted that in La Josefina Prospect the extensional tectonics generated brittle deformation during the late Jurassic. The maximum compressive stress (s1) has a direction approximately N 340° to N-S and the extensional direction (σ3) is orientated N070-080°. This stress field is in agreement with regional northeast (~ N030°) left-lateral strike-slip faults.

Keywords : Structural analysis; Epithermal Jurassic mineralization; Deseado Massif.
