This article analyzes the policies implemented by the government of Salta to monitor its Eastern border and maintain a certain stability with the indigenous communities that lived in the Chaco between 1804 and 1823. Our objective is to investigate the ways in which Salteños and Chaqueños related in a period which continues to be considered as obscure by the historiography due to the scanty documentation available.

Most of the sources consulted are located in the Historical Archive and Library of Salta in the Government Fund, which were complemented and compared with published sources.
