Abstract
DEL VAL VALDIVIESO, María Isabel. Mujeres y espacio público: negociando con el poder en las ciudades castellanas de fines de la Edad Media. Temas mediev. [online]. 2012, vol.20, n.1, pp.00-00. ISSN 0327-5094.
In the cities and villages of Castile at the end of the Middle Ages, the social group known as the común was conscious of its collective personality and was able to enact claims and participate in political negotiation with the regidores. As a function of the fact that the aforementioned group included both men and women, this work considers the female group, in order to analyze its involvemement in urban life. Some of such collectives of labouring women organized themselves to defend their own interests (such as candlemakers, bakers, oven workers, fish sellers, etc.) and in some instances, negotiated with the city council. This evidences the implication of women in politics and the respect shown to them by the local powers, which recognized them as members of the social body in the urban centre where they develop their life and trade.
