Abstract

VANOLI, Fernando  and  MANDRINI, María Rosa. The political gesture of architecture. Contributions of rurality for a critical projective thinking in university education. Trab. soc. [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.41, pp.123-140.  Epub July 01, 2023. ISSN 1514-6871.

This paper aims to question the continuities of modern-colonial thinking in university architectural education, in order to move towards a critical and situated projective thinking. The premise is that the rural habitat escapes from the architectural interventions of the discipline, therefore, it is possible to recognize there a great amount of information regarding the material and symbolic definition of non-modern spatialities, vital to rethink the processes of teaching and learning its transfer to architectural practices. The methodology adopted is based on: 1) the study of rural habitat spatialities in the northwest of Córdoba, Argentina; 2) experiences of buildings and critical study projects in Latin America; and 3) experiences of Latin American universities that are committed to the challenge of decolonizing pedagogical practices. Therefore, we approach a projective thinking that enables political gestures in architecture as a way of incorporating reflection to complement action.

Keywords : rural architecture; university education; subaltern knowledge; decolonial thought.
