Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to offer a contextualization of “The Bearings of Pragmatism Upon Education” (MW 4, pp. 179–192), which we have translated in this journal’s edition. The article is composed of three parts that John Dewey (1859–1952) wrote in December 1908, and in February and March 1909. Our interpretative hypothesis is that this text is fundamental in two ways: on the one hand, to understand Dewey’s bond with the pragmatist tradition, and, on the other hand, to understand his conceptualization of the link between pragmatism and education.
