Abstract

CENA, Matías. Cumbia Villera: Denuncia y Afirmación. Trama comun. [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.2, pp.179-193. ISSN 1668-5628.

This work seeks to deepen in the comprehension of cumbia villera origins, probably one of the most massive and original popular expression the argentinian culture has known in the last decades. Although later assimilated by cultural industries -particularly, the recording industry- it´s originality was such that for quite a long time it remained primarily a marginal artistic expression. This way, cumbia villera cumbia expressed the systemic violence experienced for decades by the marginalized sectors of Buenos Aires, and the explicit shape it took caused the fear and intolerance of the middle and upper classes, and even the state intervention. The controversy surrounding this confirms his exceptional musical style in popular culture: initially unnasimilable by broad social sectors and public and semi-public institutions, it emerged and held up to the time of its manipulation by large industries as a cultural-artistic manifestation of what Walter Benjamin (2010 B) would call "character", something that could not be anticipated.

Keywords : Cumbia villera; Media; Expression; Social classes; Segregation.
