Abstract

BRIZUELA, Oscar Esteban. JUAN FELIPE IBARRA Y SU LUGAR EN EL PANTEÓN. DE LOS FESTEJOS POR LOS 100 AÑOS DE LA AUTONOMÍA PROVINCIAL AL AÑO DEL BICENTENARIO (1920-2020). Andes [online]. 2022, vol.33, n.2, pp.152-180. ISSN 1668-8090.

This article analyses a long path full of interpretive setbacks that turned Juan Felipe Ibarra, the first governor in Santiago del Estero, into the father of the provincial autonomy. One important corollary to this process through which Santiago del Estero became fully independent from Tucuman was the festivities honouring the “Bicentennial Year”.

As this piece of writing attempts to show, the ways of celebrating each April 27th have been changing while the reviosionist pointviews of the autocratic leadership were gaining ground. From Ibarra’s invisibleness in the festivities in 1920 (the first centenary) to his transition to the “author of autonomy” as of the ’80s and ‘90s in the 20th century, the interpretive struggles became apparent in the proposals made by the provincial government, which leant towards building a pantheon ruled by the first governor in Santiago del Estero.

Keywords : Ibarra; Autocratic leadership; Bicentennial; commemorations; provincial state.
