Abstract

NOTH, Winfried. Self referenciality in the crisis of modernity. Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2001, n.17, pp.365-369. ISSN 1668-8104.

The idea of a selfreferenciality in signs has been considered a symptom of the modern crisis. The images of the world do not represent what is real, but mere virtuality. Sings become instruments of simulation instead of representation. Selfreferenciality of signs appear in all dominions of culture: fashion, press, publicity, and production of goods. Thus if at end of the millennium we come to the discovery that signs become were selfreflexive simulations, how can we avoid the verification that our own discourse is annihilated on coming to the conclusion that it also proves to be such a simulation?
