The aim of this paper is to show the importance of properly include the economic dimension in environmental impact assessment. The economic dimension is considered using cost benefit analysis (BCA) and economic valuation of externalities (VEE). By using two illustrations and two cases of studies the undesirable consequences of ignoring the ABC: a) suggest approval of projects that are potentially inefficient, and b) lack of efficient projects with little economic return private are shown.
