Abstract

FERNANDEZ, J et al. Tratamientos hormonales para incrementar la eficiencia reproductiva en los ovinos. RIA. Rev. investig. agropecu. [online]. 2016, vol.42, n.2, pp.145-152. ISSN 1669-2314.

Reproductive efficiency in sheep can be affected by losses during pregnancy, which is one of the factors affecting production parameters of this species. Among prenatal losses, embryonic mortality is considered as the most important, and its main cause would be an inadequate luteal function. Therefore, different hormonal therapies have been used in order to improve functionality of the corpus luteum to reduce embryonic losses. Hormonal treatments with progesterone, human chorionic gonadotropin or gonadotropin-releasing hormone have been used at different times of the estrous cycle obtaining variable and not always conclusive results. A review of hormonal therapy on reproductive efficiency in sheep is presented.
