Abstract

MOYANO, Martín; MONTERO, Christian; GEDDO, Santiago  and  LORENZO, Ezequiel. An inquiry into the place of political economy in the philosophical projects of Smith and Hegel. Enfoques [online]. 2023, vol.35, n.1, pp.65-83. ISSN 1669-2721.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the place of political economy within Adam Smith’s and G. W. F. Hegel’s philosophical projects by attempting to review the theoretical content embedded in some of their main works. In order to do so, it will be shown how both authors, as they face the need to transcend direct social relationships, end up moving towards the study of mercantile relationships. Approaching the end of this article, a few reflections regarding the difficulties they encountered when pursuing this enterprise and the relevance of their theoretical legacy will be made.

Keywords : Political economy; History of economic thought; Philosophy; Smith; Hegel.
