Abstract

AGUERO, Cecilia Edith. Memory’s place in education: The Algerian war and French school books, 2000-2012. Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2021, vol.20, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1669-9041.

The current article looks to present a brief historical and comparative summary regarding the ways the Argelian war is presented in French school books in the beginning of the XXI century. Through the study of the contents of such texts, we will attempt to show the advances by the French society regarding how to include such incident in the historical memory. Moreover, based on discussions about the war sparked during the eighties, which had great impact in the way the conflict is taught in the classroom, we will express the ways in which French society has assimilated and understands one of the cruellest and debated topics of post-war contemporary France.

Keywords : Argelian war; France; Schoolbooks; Education.
