Abstract

BERGER, Micaela Gisel; ITURRI, Laura Antonela  and  BUSCHIAZZO, Daniel Eduardo. SOIL EVOLUTION IN RECENTLY DEPOSITED AEOLIAN SEDIMENTS IN A SEMIARID REGION. EFFECT OF VARIABLE THICKNESSES. Cienc. suelo [online]. 2023, vol.41, n.1, pp.175-184.  Epub Nov 30, 2023. ISSN 1850-2067.

Evidence exists that the Caldenal (caldén (Prosopis caldenia) forest) of the Semiarid Pampas Region functions as a sink of aeolian sediments. These sediments accumulate on a layer of volcanic ash deposited in 1932, which allows to analyze the degree of soil evolution in a 90-year period. Therefore, some physical, chemical and morphological properties of the superficial soil horizon (Ah) of a caldén forest, which evolves from those sediments, were evaluated from windward to leeward. The results indicated that the evolution of the soil was incipient, although soil development tended to be better towards windward than at leeward.

Keywords : pedogenesis; organic carbon; semiarid region; wind erosion.
