Abstract

BOBILLO, Federico Miguel. Estudio comparativo de Zonas de Aprovisionamiento y Cantera (ZAC) de Punta de la Peña (Antofagasta de la Sierra, Catamarca): análisis de las actividades de talla en una cantera y cantera-taller. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.1, pp.67-77. ISSN 1850-373X.

A variety of activities related to lithic resources procurement and tool manufacture were identified at Zonas de Aprovisionamiento y Cantera (ZAC), Punta de la Peña (Antofagasta de la Sierra, Catamarca). In this paper, the results of a study of the variability of knapping activities in the production spaces of the ZAC which was carried out by analyzing two lithic contexts from the Pampa Oeste Zona de Aprovisionamiento y Cantera (POZAC) and Punta de la Peña Zona de Aprovisionamiento y Cantera (PPZAC) are presented. Radial transects, sampling and a techno-typological analysis were conducted in order to study the functionality of these spaces. In ADT 1 (POZAC) core reduction and blank extraction activities were observed, typical activities at quarry sites. In contrast, Sector 1 (PPZAC) comprised a lithic context which differs from that registered in ADT 1 (POZAC), and was characterized by blank extraction activities alongside tool manufacture. It is concluded that Sector 1 (PPZAC) functioned as a quarry-workshop.
