Abstract

AISENSON, Diana et al. Identity development of youth and significant contexts: a perspective from psychology of guidance. Anu. investig. [online]. 2006, vol.13, pp.81-88. ISSN 1851-1686.

This article is using as a reference the investigation that the Research Group of Psychology of Guidance13 is developing: "Pathways, Insertion in Significant Contexts and Identity Construction in Youth (UBACyT Project P062). Psychology of Guidance has underlined the importance of the changing contexts in the identity construction of youth. The research team focuses on theories that study identity and context. The theories selected and/or constructed are the methodological tools used in this investigation and they enlighten the analysis of the obtained data. From the methodological aspect, this investigation will refer to one specific tool used, this was a questionnaire administered during the 2005 school year to a sample of 1339 senior high school students attending middle class public schools in the city of Buenos Aires. The conclusions establish the importance of Guidance that could assist the young students to construct and develop their projects, and to assist them to achieve success in a significant context. In order to fulfill this goal, it is important that counselors of the Psychology of Guidance help the young students to expand their horizons of possibilities by exploring their surroundings and validating their experiences in diverse contexts, and also to develop a self-reflection that will enable the young students to make commitments and to achieve their autonomy.
