The present article is divided into four sections. The first attempts to address the question, “¿what has been the role of education among indigenous peoples?” The second section briefly describes the relationship between the state-funded university and the indigenous populations; the third section develops an explanatory approach regarding the reproduction of racism in Guatemala’s public university. The fourth and final section details and explains what has been the participation of Mayan university students in the current process of university reform, what their demands are and how they have constructed their proposals.
