Abstract

FERREIRA, Bruno. Descolonizando a escola: em busca de novas práticas. Avá [online]. 2018, n.33, pp.165-184. ISSN 1851-1694.

The search for new practices in order to constitute a school that respects the indigenous own processes to build knowledges and that values their educational practices is needed. For this purpose, it is necessary to decolonize old practices of the whitening and civilizing school that are present in indigenous schools. It is necessary to foresee possible ways to overcome or, at least, question knowledges that are entrenched in the schools. ¿Why are indigenous knowledges (in)visible and (mis)understood? The colonizing school denies the existence of other cultures and, this way, (in)visibilizes indigenous peoples, that are placed in a subordinate and inferior category in the so called civilized white society. Therefore, the decolonization of schooling is urgent, in order to value and consider indigenous knowledges, their stories, cultures and languages, as well as their educational practices. This article addresses in particular the school of the kaingang people based on the author’s experiences.

Keywords : Indigenous School; Decolonial Practices; Kaingang Education.
