Abstract
SOARES, Fátima C; TELES, Guilherme C and RUSSI, Jumar L. Measuring the values of equivalent lengths used in determining the pressure drop. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2015, n.24, pp.16-21. ISSN 1851-7587.
This study aimed to compare the results of localized pressure loss of PVC pipes with those obtained in pipes of equivalent length. The experiment was conducted in the hydraulics laboratory at Federal University of Pampa/RS, on a pipe bench with diameters of 20, 25 and 32 mm, where the losses were measured at 90° bends, 45° and 90º elbows and globe valves. The pressure loss generated by the respective equivalent lengths was determined for each device. It was noted that equivalent lengths used in today's projects are oversized for pipes with a 90° bent (diameters of 20 mm and 25 mm) and for 45° and 90° elbows (diameters of 20, 25 and 32 mm); however, they are undersized for the globe valves (diameters of 20, 25 and 32 mm). Thus, an adjustment on equivalent length is necessary.
