Abstract

PUENTE, Verónica et al. PAICUQUI, THE CRAG OF COLORS. SOURCE OF MINERAL PIGMENTS INA SACRED LANDSCAPE (SOUTHERN PUNA, ARGENTINA). Relaciones [online]. 2023, vol.48, suppl.2, pp.11-11. ISSN 0325-2221.

This paper deals with the production of color in Antofagasta de la Sierra from the analysis of the first source of mineral pigments recognized in the micro-region, located in the Peña del Medio, Paicuqui. The recognition of circulation spaces and possible work areas, the tools used, and the composition of the mineral colors are presented. The position, location and way in which the colors are presented in the landscape are emphasized. Along with this, the consumption and circulation of these minerals in the micro-region is evaluated from the compositional determination of the pigments that were used in different contexts. Finally, we propose that the multiplicity of colors that converge in this space reinforces the sacredness of this place and the notion of Paicuqui as a tinku, where roads, ancestors, water and colors converge.

Keywords : mineral pigment; color; tinku; southern puna; Late Inka period.
