Abstract

HERRERA MORATTA, Mario Andres; NAVAS ROMERO, Ana Laura  and  MARTINEZ CARRETERO, Eduardo. Effect of the bioform of shrubs on the rate of evaporation in the southern Puna of Argentina. Multequina [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.1, pp.5-11. ISSN 1852-7329.

The high mountain areas are characterized by the severity of their climatic conditions. In this sense, the wind is considered the main modulating agent of physiological and ecological processes. In this work we evaluated the effect of the morphology of two pulvinated vs. non-pulvinated shrubs on the evaporation rate, being the wind the main modulating agent. 5 specimens of each morphology were extracted and exposed to a laboratory-scale tunnel wind flow. To measure its effect on the evaporation rate, the evaporation free body technique was used. The pulvinated morphology decreased the evaporation rate, while the non-pulvinated morphology had no effect. The different aerodynamics, as well as its temperature exchange with the environment, would explain these effects.
