Abstract

FERNANDEZ¹, Mercedes Grisel. Early and Middle holocene faunal exploitation inside the patagonian forest. Insight from población Anticura site Río Negro, Argentina. Zaranda ideas [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.1, pp.9-28. ISSN 1853-1296.

Current knowledge on the subsistence during initial occupation in the North Patagonian forest is based on the taxonomic representation of three sites(Monte Verde, Marifilo1 and El Trébol). However, the taphonomic histories of bone assemblages and/or the modalities of prey exploitation remain unknown. In order to complete this knowledge gap, I present the results of the study on Early and Middle Holocene bone assemblages and/ or from Población Anticura site. It has been established that carnivores were the main agents involved in the formation of the assemblages using the site as burrow or latrine. Nevertheless, traces derived from human behavior were identified, suggesting that, during Early Holocene, small groups of hunter gatherers made brief stays at the site consuming huemul (Hippocamelus bisulcus) and fox (Pseudalopex sp.) and, in Middle Holocene, also pudu (Pudu puda).
