Abstract

APARICIO, Alejandra Toscana  and  PONCELA, Anna María Fernández. The garbage pickers and the garbage dump of Sierra de Guadalupe (Tultitlán, México). Study of the. Estudios Socioterritoriales [online]. 2021, vol.29, pp.69-69. ISSN 1853-4392.  http://dx.doi.org/10.37838/unicen/est.29-200.

From the perspective of the Geography of Emotions, we study the case of the solid waste dump area of Sierra de Guadalupe, in Tultitlán, State of Mexico; in particular we focus on disgust and its relation to the garbage dump dynamics and the lives of garbage collectors. The emotion of disgust is reviewed as well as its main explanations from biology and culture. We briefly present the problem of garbage, to continue with the living conditions of a group of people who live and/or work in the vicinity of the dump. Finally, the relationship between garbage, disgust, and territory is explored. We find that this emotion affects the configuration of territory, and that garbage and disgust seem to go together for some, while for others, garbage is a source of employment and life.

Keywords : Emotion; Disgust; Garbage collectors; Garbage; Territory.
