Abstract

FIDANZA, Juan López. Feeling of insecurity: the coverage of the devotion to San la Muerte in print media. Soc. relig. [online]. 2015, vol.25, n.44, pp.90-123. ISSN 1853-7081.

In the last decades a variety of supplies became visible in the argentine religious field. In this context, the local press has tended to value the marginal religious phenomena from a perspective permeated by Catholicism. Currently, this treatment tends to be more pluralistic, but there is still resistances and stereotypings towards those religious organizations that inhabit the margins of socially acceptable beliefs. This paper proposes to investigate the image of the devotion to San la Muerte constructed by the media. Through a content analysis exercise I will seek to characterize this presentation, seeking to understand the reasons for its criminalization through the contributions of the theories of framing and newsmaking

Keywords : Media image; San la Muerte; Popular religión; Social regulations; Press.
