Abstract

PUGLISI, Rodolfo. Hierarchies, family and forms of participation in Sai Baba Organization of Argentina.: An analysis of the New Age field boundaries. Soc. relig. [online]. 2015, vol.25, n.44, pp.124-154. ISSN 1853-7081.

In line with recent problematizations, this article questions the tendency to include within the New Age religious manifestations that while having similarities, real or apparent, with that, it overlooks significant differences that do not escape to a more systematic analysis. In this paper we focus on the most dissonant traits with the New Age circuit having one of these religious expressions, the Sai Baba movement. So, first, we provide a characterization of the institutional structure of the Sai Baba Organization, the kind of authority that it prevails and the role given to the family. Below, we provide a typology of persons involved in Argentina Sai Baba movement. Subsequently, realize the fundamental characteristics of the New Age movement. Finally, contrasting elements of both conclude that, although there are points of contact, there are also important differences between the Sai cult and New Age.
