Abstract

PATTIN, Sebastian. "The permanent mystery": Criterio's readers (1955-1966). Soc. relig. [online]. 2016, vol.26, n.45, pp.44-72. ISSN 1853-7081.

The following paper examines the readers of the Catholic journal Criterio between the coup against Juan D. Peron in 1955 and the self-proclaimed military government Argentine Revolution in 1966. Since neither unpublished letter exchange nor registers of subscribers are found in archives, source material that would allow us to further develop our hypothesis, the following discussion is solely based on the published letters. Not only does the article intend to outline a profile of the readers, but also to identify as far as possible the relationship established between the journal and its readership. In addition, the letters from the readers allow us to explore as a prism the ideological shifts in the publication itself as well as in the local Catholicism, addressing specially the conflicts over the religious authority's role.
