Abstract

BARELLI, Ana Inés. Marian patronage and resignification Dynamics: the "Virgen del Carmen" Chilean migrants in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina (1970-2013). Soc. relig. [online]. 2016, vol.26, n.45, pp.95-129. ISSN 1853-7081.

Marian devotions are a deep and interesting variable to analyze the social identity processes because they are presented in a historical dimension, generate membership and built territoriality. The city of San Carlos de Bariloche in Rio Negro province is characterized by being the recipient of a variety of migratory flows, among them the chilean having a special significance. The article intends to address the devotion of chilean migrants moving to the Virgen del Carmen to San Carlos de Bariloche focusing on the dynamics of resignification of Marian patronage at the different stages of the history of a religious precinct, built at the end of the decade of 1960 in a district of the city known as "the District of Chileans". On that basis we explore the different senses of belonging that is associated not only with the Chilean assignment but also with a territoriality that materialized in the chapel-parish and was projected at the neighborhood space.

Keywords : San Carlos de Bariloche; Chilean Migrants; Virgen del Carmen; Marian Patronage.
