Abstract

ZAPATA, Laura. Interstices and Fragmentations: “promotion” of the Chaco indians (1970-1990). Soc. relig. [online]. 2016, vol.26, n.46, pp.163-180. ISSN 1853-7081.

Inspired by the anthropology of development and colonialisms, in this paper we analyze the promotion projects developed in El Sauzalito (Province of Chaco, Argentina), undertaken under the aegis of the Catholic Church and the Argentine Government between 1970 and 1990, as artifacts socially produced and culturally signified by the agents who carried them out, apt to be subjected to an ethnographic operation. We are especially interested in the formation processes of political units for local action with an interethnic base, as a strategy for the incorporation of acephalous societies into a domination schema characterized by a centralized authority.

Keywords : Promotion; Politics; Chaco.
