Abstract

PERDOMO MARIN, Juan Camilo. “All the immutable traditions were transformed the day before yesterday”: Following the (re) invention of Shamanism . Soc. relig. [online]. 2018, vol.28, n.50, pp.12-36. ISSN 1853-7081.

Emerging intercultural scenarios problematize the usefulness of anthropological categories related to shamanism, so we need to critically evaluate their accuracy and analytical productivity. For this task first, I will make a genealogy of the conceptions of shamanism in anthropology, I will analyze the logic of its social reproduction, and the disputes to establish its legitimacy. Second, I will highlight the political dimension of shamanistic ritualism. Third, I will objectify how there is discursive feedback between researchers and shamans. And, finally, I will conclude how the previous reflections will allow us to broaden our understanding about interculturality.

Keywords : Shamanism; Tradition; Syncretism; Mimicry; Alterity.
