Abstract

GUERRERO J, Bernardo. Popular religiosity in Norte Grande, Chile: use of social networks. Soc. relig. [online]. 2020, vol.30, n.53, pp.97-123. ISSN 0326-9795.

We analyze the use of social networks, specially Facebook, of the pilgrims who belong to the dancing groups that go to the Marinan feasts of the north of Chile. We show how through this social network, they movilize and spread the contents of this popular religiosity demonstration. We finally propose the no contradition between a traditional religious practice and a cultural practice of globalization. In methodological terms , we track more than a hundred Facebooks whose contents are classified in categories such as identity, social ethic, recruitment, scenery, among others.

Keywords : Religious feasts; Youth; Facebook.
