Abstract

ESPINOSA, Mariana. The testimony among Andean and gospel women. Soc. relig. [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.56, pp.1-1. ISSN 0326-9795.

The article narrates the biography of two gospel women from the Andean region of the Argentine Northwest: Nina Mayta, from the Quebrada de Humahuaca, and Meri Cusi, from the Puna. The analysis links experiences of spatial dislocations, ruptures and socio-symbolic inventions linked to capitalist enclaves and to evangelical expansion in the region. Through their life stories, we are interested in recovering the native meaning of testimony and in reviewing some of social and human sciences uses of this notion. I argue that the testimony can be understood as a spiritual technology that enables the exercise of memory allowing an active position of women to face borderline experiences and past oppression.
