Abstract
RENGIFO LOPEZ, Julián David. Migration and religiosity in Tijuana (Mexico): the case of Juan Soldado. Soc. relig. [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.57, pp.23-23. Epub Aug 10, 2021. ISSN 0326-9795.
This article analyzes the devotion to Juan Soldado in relation to the migratory experiences of his believers. The objective of this text is to define why this popular saint has acquired the role of protector of migrants. The information gathering process was carried out using the ethnographic method: observation and non-directed interviews carried out with the faithful who visit the altar of this popular saint. Likewise, the Critical Discourse Analysis was applied to the offerings hung in the soldier's chapel. This work concluded that the people who emigrated to the United States came to Juan Soldado because they considered him a real alternative to solve the problems of the route. These problems were not solved neither by the State nor by the Church.
