Starting from considering the daily life of footwear workers in León, Guanajuato (México), this work problematizes the contexts and formats in which Catholicism is presented as a matrix of certainties, given the precariousness of the trade and of social life in general. The discussion focuses on the process of individuation that the worker ordinarily undertakes regarding popular Catholicism, highlighting the emergence of reflexivity and ambivalence regarding the collective meaning of this religiosity. Catholic in my own way, represents an analytical look to examine the religious-labor relations that are usually named as a tradition for this union. It seeks to contribute to the study of religious individuation and the possibilities of the subject to redefine the religious, in a context of transformation of conventional life models and social crises.
