Abstract

SORIA, Nélida  and  MERELES, Fátima. The species of Asteraceae from the wetlands of Paraguay. Bonplandia [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.2, pp.129-142. ISSN 0524-0476.  http://dx.doi.org/10.30972/bon.3126016..

The Asteraceae family represents about 12% of the species of flowering plants in the world. It is estimated that they originated around 50-70 million years ago, have evolved quickly, and colonized various types of habitats, even becoming wetland weeds. The aquatic-palustrine species of Paraguay are disclosed, for which botanical collections were made and specimens deposited in different herbaria were reviewed. In total, 32 species inhabiting the wetlands were found, seven of them belong to lotic environments, 27 to lentic and 10 strictly aquatic. The best represented tribe is Eupatorieae, followed by Vernonieae. Only one species is reported as endemic. Knowledge about the flora of wetlands is still scarce, so it is necessary to increase the collections in these habitats.

Keywords : lotic and lentic environments; marsh and aquatic species.
