Abstract

BUENO, María del Pilar. When the Recipe for Success Results in Degradation and Pandemic: Pigs and Capitalism. Temas debates (En línea) [online]. 2020, n.40, suppl.1, pp.477-485. ISSN 1853-984X.

The vicious circle that combines ecosystem degradation at the global level, climate change, zoonoses, pandemics, modes of production and consumption, as well as the accumulation and development model, has left its level of potentiality and warning to become a forceful and expensive reality. This cost has a correlation in the society, in politics and in the economy, as they continue to make the environmental dimension invisible and promote a dichotomous view of society and nature, as well as, development and environment. The current political cycle in Argentina and the international context provide a new opportunity to promote models of development, consumption, production and life that challenge and deconstruct the invisibilities of this supposedly successful recipe for extractivist capitalism.

Keywords : Pandemic; Environmental degradation; Extractivist model of production and consumption.
