Abstract

MANZONI, Celina. Platicar cuesta. Juan Rulfo: an Ethic of Writing. CELEHIS [online]. 2018, n.36, pp.1-10. ISSN 2313-9463.

The reading of one of Juan Rulfo's most well-known stories, "Nos han dado la tierra" from El llano en llamas (1953), is the basis for a reflection on what has been called an aesthetic of ellipsis. Without neglecting the controversies that surrounded the contemporary reception of his work both in regard to the relationship between nature and history or the relationship between universalism and regionalism, among others, the article proposes to transfer the axis of criticism to the re-reading of some reflections that, on the end of the century, some writers formulate. The attention that Libertella, Saer and Bolaño have paid to the relationship between the literary field and mass culture, in my hypothesis points to a redefinition of both the place of criticism and the poetics and politics between the nineties and the first decade of the new century approximately. This reading, which puts different poetic dialogues together, makes it possible to establish some coincidences around the need to renew literature in the Spanish language, a movement that ends up redefining the place of Rulfo in the center of a canon organized around the ethic of writing.
