Abstract

MERA, Gabriela  and  MARCOS, Mariana. Los censos de población como fuente de datos para trabajar a nivel microespacial (1980-2010). Pampa [online]. 2012, n.8, pp.137-161. ISSN 2314-0208.

In the last decades, metropolitan areas have experienced changes in their dynamics and morphology, with the predominance of micro-differences over the continuities, homogeneities and macro-differences that used to prevail in the past. From a quantitative macro perspective, census data are the only ones that provide enough flexibility for microspatial analysis. However, the existence of difficulties with the survey and coding of some variables, and the use of sampling procedures, among other methodological problems, makes essential the task of checking the real possibilities offered by the census as a source of information for working at smaller scales. This paper aims to investigate the scope and limitations of the Argentine censuses in recent decades as a source to analyze the population in a microespatial level, focusing on the case of the Gran Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area.

Keywords : Sources of data; Population census; Microespatial analysis.
