Abstract

CANTERA, Carmen Susana. Between conflicts, fears and complaints. The construction of political identities in local spaces of the government of Córdoba (1814-1815). Rev. hist. am. argent. [online]. 2022, vol.57, n.2, pp.51-81.  Epub Nov 17, 2022. ISSN 2314-1549.  http://dx.doi.org/10.48162/rev.44.028.

This article focuses its attention on spaces subordinated to the government of Córdoba during the years 1814-1815. The choice of such a particular circumstance responds to the tensions that can be perceived at the local and supra-local level and that gave rise to official intervention originating from rumors of conspiracy, suspicions of approval of the royalist triumphs or complicity with Spanish prisoners sent to the interior of the territory of the former viceroyalty. From a qualitative approach of published and unpublished sources, the work proposes to analyze the tensions that are revealed in the interior spaces from the presence of Spanish prisoners and inmates and their connection with underlying conflicts. More than true counterrevolutionary threats, the lawsuits reveal the political and economic competition that crossed the margins of local urban entities and involved different government instances. In addition, the appeal to a revolutionary rhetoric legitimized political practices and enabled the construction of identity representations while the figure of political otherness was instituted at the slightest suspicion of attitudes contrary to the "patriotic spirit".
