Abstract

ROMERO PEDRAZ, Belinda. Guerra económica, inteligencia económica. Nuevo concepto de seguridad. Relac. int. [online]. 2020, vol.29, n.58, pp.197-215. ISSN 2314-2766.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.24215/23142766e095.

This article will analyze the implications of geoeconomic aspects in international security, exposing the evolution of their importance in history and in today’s complex and interconnected reality. Through the study of economic defense and attack mechanisms, the importance of the economic resource in the world power game and its effects on what is already known as "economic war" will be analyzed, within the frame of a hybrid threat. To this end, the historical evolution of the economy as a weapon will be explained, from the beginning of international trade relations to the current globalization and rise of protectionism. Likewise, the defects of the capitalist system that become threats to security will be analyzed.

In view of the importance that economic aspects have on the birth, development and outcome of conflicts, armed or otherwise, we wonder whether there is a way to anticipate their consequences, effects and, more importantly, influence on their appearance and development, and whether this way entails the implementation and use of an economic intelligence system. Temporarily and spatially focused on today’s economic uncertainty and on the developed economies which are capable of exerting influence, the idea of the implementation of such a system as a security mechanism will be defended through the use of the analytical method.

Keywords : Geoeconomics; security; economic warfare; hybrid threat; economic intelligence.
