PODETTI, José Ramiro. Uruguay y la Guerra de las Malvinas. Relac. int. [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.62, pp.169-185. ISSN 2314-2766. http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.24215/23142766e148.
Any analysis of the reactions caused by the events of April 2, 1982 in Uruguay must consider some peculiarities of the country's situation in the face of the Malvinas issue, which differentiate it from the rest of Latin America. The position of the Uruguayan government, since UN Resolution 2065 (XX) (1965), can be characterized as being explicitly and actively supportive of Argentine sovereignty over the islands, showing adherence to and demanding a peaceful solution to the dispute, within the framework of United Nations resolutions.
This position has constituted a clear and consistent State policy, supported by all Governments. In this work we will address the position and role of Uruguay during the development of the Malvinas War.
