Abstract

JAMSCHON MAC GARRY, Laura. La diplomacia espacial como forma de diplomacia científico-tecnológica: respuestas multidisciplinarias a desafíos globales. Relac. int. [online]. 2023, vol.32, n.64, pp.19-38. ISSN 2314-2766.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.24215/23142766e161.

While there is a tendency in the literature to approach space diplomacy by outlining the discussions on the multilateral agenda regarding the use and exploration of outer space, there is no study that delves into this notion as a form of scientific and technological diplomacy. This article aims to substantiate this hypothesis based on intersection of both concepts in two points: global governance and international cooperation. On this basis, it will explain how the three dimensions of scientific and technological diplomacy –science and technology in diplomacy, science and technology for diplomacy, and diplomacy for science and technology– are verified in practice in the space domain.

Keywords : scientific and technological diplomacy; space diplomacy; multilateralism; UN; outer space.
