Abstract

BRIEGER, Pedro. La resignificación de la Nakba. Relac. int. [online]. 2023, vol.32, n.64, pp.59-70. ISSN 2314-2766.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.24215/23142766e163.

After being expulsed from their territory in 1948, the Palestinians became refugees, yearning to return to their lands. The denial and trauma of the catastrophe they experienced prevented them for decades from finding concepts that may allow them to understand what had happened, until they appropriated the word Nakba (catastrophe), which was resignified and turned into an internationally accepted political concept.

Keywords : Nakba; memory; catastrophe; Palestine; 1948; expulsion; refugees.
