Abstract

DALBOSCO, Dulce María. Sobre la circulación transatlántica de un fado portugués: usos y transformaciones en la canción popular. Taco brea [online]. 2023, n.18, e0120. ISSN 2362-4191.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.14409/eltaco.2023.18.e0120.

The purpose of this article is to think about the circulation, reception and uses of popular song as instances that produce meaning, which can transform the discursive content of a song and even multiply it. In order to achieve this aim, we propose to reconstruct some traces of the personalized and social biography of the song «Uma casa portuguesa», from its composition in Mozambique in the 50s, its subsequent appropriation by a Salazarist Portugal, until its landing in Argentina. In particular, we will focus on the disagreements in the discursive decoding of the song. If for years many Portuguese fadistas refused to sing «Uma casa portuguesa» because they considered it a symbol of the mechanisms of numbing and publicity used by the Estado Novo, for the descendants of the Portuguese immigration in Argentina, this song acquired other connotations when it became an emblem of identity.

We conceive popular songs as intermediary products, whose semiotic complexity converges from the interaction between lyrics, music, interpretation, circulation, mediation, edition and visual narrative.

Keywords : fado; song; reception; use; Portuguese house.
