Abstract

RODRIGUEZ MONTIEL, Emiliano. A novel made in a big way. The impact, extension and time of El pasado by Alan Pauls. Recial [online]. 2022, vol.13, n.22, pp.270-290.  Epub Dec 08, 2022. ISSN 2718-658X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.53971/2718.658x.v13.n22.39624.

This paper is part of a recently completed and defended doctoral thesis. This thesis studies the constitution of anachronism as a form of contemporary dandyism in the narrative of Alan Pauls. In this instance we propose to explore his best known and studied novel: El pasado. For this we focus on three levels of understanding and analysis: your impact, your extension and the singular temporality that is composed in your interior. My hypothesis is that: a) the editorial demand of Anagrama regarding size is internalized in the creative process; b) the phrase of this narrative, for criticism, is assumed simultaneously as the value and disvalue of his literature; and c) narrative time is transformed by epiphany, a form typical of the temporary regime of anachronism.

Keywords : anachronism of fiction; Alan Pauls; total novel; contemporary argentine narrative.
