Abstract

RUBINSTEIN, Nora; SRUOGA, Patricia  and  ETCHEVERRIA, Mariela. Cerros Amarillos: analteration porphyry type system, Upper Miocene, Cordillera Principal,Mendoza. Rev. Asoc. Geol. Argent. [online]. 2009, vol.65, n.3, pp.566-570. ISSN 0004-4822.

In the Cerros Amarillos area,Cordillera Principal of Mendoza province, Argentina (35°S, 70°W) it crops outan alteration zone which is spatially linked to volcanics of Upper Miocene age.It is characterized by early potassic alteration with a paragenesis of biotite-magnetite.It is overprinted by a sericita-silica-carbonate paragenensis with associatedalbite. This later stage corresponds to a high level albite-sericiteassociation which is prior to the phyllic alteration stage. Endoskarn faciescomprising pyroxene breccias and plagioclase-pyroxene veins also crops out inthe area. The recognized paragenesis points to a porphyry system with sodicalteration. The stratigraphic controls and the geochronological data suggest agenetically link with the Upper Miocene magmatism

Keywords : Alteration paragenesis; Porphyry system; Sodic alteration; Skarn; Upper Miocene.
