Three gull species breed along the coasts of Argentina: the Kelp Gull (Larus dominicanus), the Olrog's Gull (Larus atlanticus), and the Dolphin Gull (Larus scoresbii). These species present different breeding strategies and distribution and abundance patterns, which have important implications for the conservation and management of their populations. The Kelp Gull is a widely distributed species with expanding populations and potential conflicts with other coastal species and human populations. Dolphin and Olrog's gulls have relatively small population sizes and more restricted breeding distributions, with the latter considered as a Vulnerable species. The distribution and abundance of these three gulls is updated, summarizing the published and unpublished existing information on population estimates. In addition, aspects of their breeding biology (such as those related to their breeding cycles, feeding ecology and habitat requirements) which could be useful for the development of monitoring programs, action plans and regional conservation strategies, are reviewed. Finally, an evaluation of the current conservation status and management issues and a list of recommendations are presented.
