Abstract

LOPEZ-LANUS, Bernabé et al. Descripción del pichón del Burrito Negruzco (Porzana spiloptera). Hornero [online]. 2012, vol.27, n.2, pp.195-198. ISSN 0073-3407.

Description of the chick of the Dot-winged Crake (Porzana spiloptera) Very little is known about the breeding of the Dot-winged Crake (Porzana spiloptera). We provide a description of the chick of this species, including details on bill colour pattern that is diagnostic in Rallidae. We compare bill colour with that of other small crake species, in particular Laterallus jamaicensis, which has similar vocalizations. We confirm that an unidentified chick specimen of Rallidae at the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales "Bernardino Rivadavia" is not Porzana spiloptera.

Keywords : Bill color pattern; Breeding; Description of chick; Laterallus jamaicensis; Porzana spiloptera.
