Abstract

VERON, SlLVINA M.. FIRST RECORD OF ANTILLEAN NIGHTHAWK (Chordeiles gundlachii) IN ARGENTINA. Hornero [online]. 2021, vol.36, n.2, pp.130-139. ISSN 0073-3407.

Antillean Ni-ghthawk (Chordeiles gundlachii) breeds in the Bahamas, the Greater Antilles, the Cayman Islands and southern Florida, but its migration and wintering grounds remain poorly known. From the end of December 2020 to the middle of March 2021, and again during December 2021, I recorded this species in San José de Feliciano, Entre Ríos, Argentina. I recorded vocalizations, which allowed me to confirm the correct identification of the species. This record extends its southern wintering range by more than 3000 km to the south, and represents the first record of this species in Argentina. With this new species, the genus Chordeiles include five species in Argentina.

Keywords : Antillean Nighthawk; Argentina; Caprimulgiforme; Chordeiles gundlachii; first record.
