Abstract
LEVEAU, Lucas M.. SEASONAL VARIATION IN THE PRESENCE OF THE EARED DOVE (Zenaida auriculata) ALONG AN URBAN GRADIENT IN MAR DEL PLATA CITY, ARGENTINA. Hornero [online]. 2023, vol.38, n.1, pp.5-5. ISSN 0073-3407. http://dx.doi.org/10.56178/eh.v38i1.1423.
The Eared Dove (Zenaida auriculata) is one of the most common doves in Argentina. However, their seasonal movements have been little studied. The aim of this work was to analyze the annual occurrence of the dove in an urban gradient in Mar del Plata City, using data collected over several years. Five to six sites were visited 179 times on different days throughout the year over a period of 11 years. The results showed that the occurrence of the dove has a defined pattern, decreasing significantly in the middle of the year, between the beginning of autumn (April) and mid-winter (end of July). This pattern matches with the increase of this species abundance in various sectors of Brazil and Perú, supporting the hypothesis of a partial latitudinal migratory movement.
