Abstract
LAZZARIN, Omar E. et al. Ligadura quirúrgica del conducto arterioso permeable por minitoracotomía. Arch. argent. pediatr. [online]. 2005, vol.103, n.3, pp.247-250. ISSN 0325-0075.
The purpose of this study was to compare standard thoracotomy with a minithoracotomy for surgical ligation of the patent ductus arteriosus. Population, material and methods. We reviewed the clinical records of the last 30 patients who were surgically treated at our institution for patent ductus arteriosus. A two tailed Student´s t test was used to calculate p value (p ≤ 0.05 was considered significant). Results. From November 2000 until September 2002, 30 patients underwent surgical closure of patent ductus arteriosus (15 with standard thoracotomy and 15 with minithoracotomy). Hospital stay was significantly lower in the minithoracotomy group as compared with the standard thoracotomy group (p 0.003). Both groups were similar in age, gender, weight, body surface area, and procedence. Since November 2001 we performed small thoracotomies; their length was significantly smaller than standard incisions (p 0.0001). All the patients were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for at least 24 hours. All the patients were extubated after the procedure. Chest tubes were placed in all but 3 patients weighting less than 5 kg in with the standard thoracotomy and in no patient of the minithoracotomy group. Conclusions. The authors were able to identify benefit in terms of hospital stay using minithoracotomy for surgical ligation of patent ductus arteriosus.
