Abstract
CHESTA, Mónica et al. Evaluación antropométrica en niños de la ciudad de Córdoba, año 2000. Arch. argent. pediatr. [online]. 2007, vol.105, n.2, pp.101-108. ISSN 0325-0075.
Introduction. Anthropometrical results are introduced in the "Health, Nutrition and Development Survey" conducted in Córdoba between May and September of 2000. Objective. to describe the nutritional conditions of the child population in the city of Córdoba, Argentina. Materials and methods. Sampling was in clusters in different stages: 558 children between 6 and 24 months-old, 368 ranged from 5 years-old (± 3 months) and 299 ranged from 8 years-old (± 3 months), distributed according to three separate socioeconomic levels (SEL), high, middle and low. The anthropometry was performed by trained professional workers following standardized techniques. According to the H/A and to the W/H indices (cutting points at 2, 1.5, -2 and -1.5 SD following the NCHS/WHO), six malnutrition categories were considered: stunting, risk of stunting, wasting, risk of wasting, obesity and risk of obesity. The results were expressed in z score, and following the Waterlow classification. Results. Prevalence of 3.4% stunting, 6.7% risk of stunting, significantly higher values at low SEL. No wasting and risk of wasting observed, except for the low SEL, at 8 years-old (4.3%). Prevalence of obesity is higher at 5 and 8 years-old (10%) compared with the 6-24 months-old (5.4%). Conclusions. This study reaffirms physical growth as the "mirror" of the social conditions of the population and shows that the intervention programs should also include populations at risk (socially and nutritionally).
